Sryth’s Gencon Post-Mortum and MERCS Preview
by Sryth on Aug.09, 2010, under Blog, MERCS, Miniatures
So Gencon 2010 is over and I can honestly say this year’s con was a bit different that years past. For starters I wasn’t signed up for eight hours of events per day and secondly this was my first Gencon where Warmachine was my game of choice. This year I got my first taste of Warmachine at Gencon and I can say it was a little crazy playing in a tournament from 9pm to 5am but it was a blast. This year we saw the WoW TCG displayed by their new owner and they seem to have it together at least initially. Gencon 2010 also saw classics games with new releases including Pulp City and Malifuax. I personally didn’t pick up any of either game but I have a list of Pulp City ready to be purchased pending a demo of the new rule changes. Which brings us to the new game dare I say the new hotness, it still to early to tell but judging by the purchases of some of the local guys it has a shot at being one of our go to games. The game in question would be MERCS.
MERCS is a new sci-fi skirmish game that has a unique movement and straight forward combat system that rewards tactics and strategic play. I personally have only played in one demo game but it was very easy to pick up and the armies were very well balanced with the game ending with a one on one duel. The game looks to be a solid game for competitive play for those with a competitive streak and for those casual players the game is easy on the wallet. All you need is five figures to play and later on ten if you want to play two squads. Did I also mention that the game is not only made in the USA but manufactured right here in Central Indiana. Expect to see some Circle City Gamers events for MERCS in the near future at a local store near you.
An in depth review of MERCS is coming soon
I almost forgot the basic rules PDF is now available check out www.mercsminis.com for more information(rules can be found in the forum in the MERCS Game section)
