Pathfinder Society: Saltire Session Report 1
by zizazat on Sep.17, 2010, under Pathfinder, Roleplaying Games
Last week, September 10th I kicked off a new Pathfinder Society group at Saltire Games in Lawrence. The response has been huge!
Because of the nature of the Pathfinder Society modules, it’s actually very difficult for me to talk about them in great detail without possibly spoiling it for future players. However, I’d like to go into whatever I can safely as well as talk about some of the characters, players and quirks of the Organized Play format.
The characters started in Absalom, the City at the Center of the World, in the Grand Lodge of the Pathfinder Society! The Grand Lodge is the largest Pathfinder Lodge in all of Golarion as well as the training grounds for all perspective Pathfinders. The new group of characters having recently completed their Confirmation tests and graduating to full fledged Pathfinders were ready for an assignment from one Absalom’s Venture-Captains.
Let’s meet the characters!
Kaleb – A halfling bard, full of excitement and knowledge! Very eager to experience new adventures so his future performances would be about him and his friends, rather than full of unknown strangers names and deeds. Kaleb had previously completed 1 mission for the Pathfinder Society.
Qiroon - A half-elf ranger, Qiroon had made himself handy as a sailor prior to joining the Pathfinders and his elven eyes made him deadly with a bow.
Zaratos – A half-elf rogue, Zaratos is quite an odd fellow. Socially very awkward and prone to behaviors his fellow Pathfinders found very eccentric, he nonetheless also proved to be quite deadly with a bow.
Valas – A human rogue from Infernal Cheliax! Valas struggles to find his way in the world where the souls of his loved ones have been sold to Cheliax’s Infernal Master Asmodeus.
Ezryc – A human paladin also from Cheliax. Ezryc is a true fish out of water in Chelixain society. Not willing to accept the Infernal rule of Asmodeus, Ezryc’s devotion to Iomedae has taken him to the gates of the Grand Lodge.
The new group of Pathfinder’s was assembled by Venture-Captain Drendel Dreng and introduced to a friend of the Society, a friend who needed a favor. Grand Master Torch explained that a friend of his, an albino Minotaur, known as the Minotaur Prince had gone missing. Torch had come into possession of some documents and maps that detailed a maze long forgotten under the city of Absalom that also referenced an ancient Elven artifact. Intrigued by the maze, the Minotaur set off to find this artifact. That was days ago Torch explains, and rather than risk the social embarrassment of a Minotaur who couldn’t solve a maze and got lost he has appealed to the Society to help resolve this matter more discreetly. He even generously offers to let the Society keep the artifact for their study, so long as his friend is found and returned.

I played Valas in this scenario. Great fun – if you’re thinking of trying out Pathfinder in general or the Pathfinder Society games in specific, I can’t recommend either enough! Ziz was a great GM for the session full of newbies, the action was fast and exciting, and the way PFS works really brought out the best in this adventure and the characters playing it.
